TROPICAL FRUIT & GARDEN SOCIETY OF ABACO

The Tropical Fruit and Garden Society of Abaco held its February meeting at the lovely home of club president Shirley Higgs on Pelican Shores. The speaker for the occasion was David Higgs, president of The Horticultural Society of The Bahamas, and the subject was orchids.

Mr Higgs outlined the various types of orchids and how to take care of them. He derided the prevalent attitude that orchids were hard to maintain. He pointed out that orchids live in the Himalayas and Andes as well as deserts and tropical rain forests. He assured members that orchids were very hardy. Mr Higgs brought more than a dozen orchids with him from Nassau and they were auctioned after Mr Higgs' address.

The next meeting of the Society will be held at the home of Steve and Anita Knowles in Bahama Palm Shores on 10th March at 10 am. Glenn Franklin will speak on Turn a Sow's Ear Into a Silk Purse. Members are asked to bring along their own folding chairs and a sandwich.
