ALTON R LOWE EXHIBITION

The fabric of life that defines The Bahamas radiates from the paintings of Bahamian artist Alton R Lowe in his 30th anniversary exhibition. Scenes of fishing villages, and the fishermen who make and mend their intricate nets, capture that fabric; a world of skill and work in a backdrop of harmony with nature.

This year's one-man exhibition marks three decades of consecutive annual shows, a history which also mirrors the continuity of life among islanders depicted in Alton Lowe's remarkably vibrant portrayals on canvas. His attention to detail, whether the subject is a fisherman intent on his net in Green Turtle Cay, or the spring visit of a porpoise to Hope Town Harbour, reaffirm the artist's own lifelong dedication to preserving the colourful colonial and aquatic character of The Bahamas.

Born on Green Turtle Cay, Alton Lowe has spent more then 30 years refining his work with a series of exhibitions and other accomplishments. He founded the Albert Lowe Museum on Green Turtle Cay in 1976, followed by the Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden. Other on-going cultural projects over the years include lectures, concerts and theatre performances at his Garden Theatre adjacent to his home on Green Turtle cay. Open-house exhibits during June and December at his gallery next to his home also attract hundreds of patrons.

Many of Alton Lowe's paintings hang in notable private collections around the world, and the general public views his work daily on Bahamas postage stamps. This year's exhibit of oil on canvas embodies 30 years of creative experience, and weaves both the commonplace and the extraordinary into the fabric of Bahamian life.

From 20th - 24th March, the Nassau Beach Hotel will play host to Alton Lowe's 30th one-man exhibition, which will be open to the public from 10 am to 7 pm daily. A special 'by invitation' preview takes place Friday evening, 19th March.
