ABACO'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Teachers from all over Abaco met for luncheon on 5th February at the Spinnaker Restaurant,
Treasure Cay, to honour the 1998 Abaco Teacher of the Year and welcome the 1999 recipient
of the prestigious award. Present were Island Administrator Everette Hart, Chief Councillors Joe Norris and Benjamin Pinder, District Supervisor Jackson McIntosh,
Rev Stafford Symonette and Abaco Principals Association president Frank Hepburn.
Master of ceremonies for the occasion was the principal of S C Bootle High School,
Leslie Rolle.
Kenneth Romer, the 1998 winner of the award, gave an inspiring address that stressed
commitment and faith in the teaching profession. The dedicated and talented Mr Romer
went on to win last year's national Teacher of the Year honours.
Announced as Teacher of the Year for 1999 was Marine Biology teacher and Head of the
Science Department at Abaco Central High School, Huel Moss. A visibly overcome Mr
Moss promised he would represent Abaco's teaching profession to the best of his ability
and try to make it 'two straight' for the island.
The choice of Mr Moss as Abaco's Teacher of the Year was well received by all present.
A personable, energetic and charming teacher with a subtle sense of humour, Mr Moss
also serves as Commissioner of Scouts for Abaco - a man dedicated to the youth of
the island in many ways. Supervisor Jackson McIntosh hinted that the prize for the award
would be a Caribbean cruise for two.
