VILLA VIGNETTES
by Ellen Bird

DRUG BUST - Proper information seems unavailable, never to be released, so
rumours are rife. It seems that a Tipsy Seagull employee and the son of a
BVOA employee were arrested causing sorrow and concern as this hits close to
home. It is hoped that the owners and managers of the Tipsy will tighten up
on drug control, otherwise we parents and grandparents will consider the
bar out of bounds, especially during the upcoming school break when many of
our young people are here. For years the Tipsy has been a fun spot to
dance, watch sunsets and enjoy pizza night and is an asset to our community
as a good family meeting place.

The Momms have been enjoying their grandchildren and we see a glamorous granny
gallivanting down the walk ways pushing a stroller to the delight of a baby
boy. The Birds are looking forward to similar pleasures in March.

Some thirty of us enjoyed a cookout where we feasted and imbibed at a patio
party hosted by the Snowes and the Whitcrafts. The Chases and Chances were
looking well, also Dr. Loren Hall and his wife were in good form. Not so
since, we hear. Even doctors succumb to the nasty bugs flitting about the
Villa area. The Guions and Bob Bird plus Bill and Francine Durrell got hit too.

The Kertlands came and left after a short visit. Near them, Bob Gettinger has
his vegetable garden coming along with some promising cauliflower but he is
having trouble getting lettuce to "spring", as they say in The Bahamas. Dick
Lott's garden is looking productive. The Birdsongs are here too but we have
been giving them a wide berth due to a very virulent bug they have been
suffering. Bob has been playing good fairy and has planted some of his
excellent tomato bushes at Fehrenbach's house. Norma and Milt are due in
the third week of February as is Harriet Cognetta and the Bishops so one
sees the villas filling up with owners as the annual meeting approaches.
Dick and Ruth Burczek are here, also Betsy Pfeiffer. Betsy was showing off
a beautiful granddaughter.

The Dempseys are well on the way building their "fortress" and their garden and
green door are great improvements. We hear Patty is looking for another
villa. Maybe if she gets one it will be easier to grow grass. Pierre and
Judith La-Barge from St. Louis have purchased Al and Genevieve Smith's
villa. Welcome! They have started beautiful garden improvements too. Youth
and Old Age spaced with hibiscus will make a pretty showing and their tomato
plants are racing to beat Francine Durrell's. Zoe is back so will be able
to supervise Bill as he sets an attractive new patio.

The Feeneys are back and Ernie is looking better already now she has had some of
Treasure's sunshine. Charlie Lombard plus Nigel and April Pegram were here
and are due back in April. Jack and Carolyn Herr have been here but keep
such a low profile I haven't managed to meet them yet and I just got a
glimpse of Judith Jones. The latest "dish" seems to be at Peg and Charlie's
new villa and there are great goings on building lockers, etc.

Speaking of "out of thin air"... Overheard: wishes for more cook outs and
cocktail parties beside our pool. Someone else agreed and a lively pool party
took place one evening. A group of local teenagers were having a great time
in the villa pool. The police, when called, soon moved them out. These
party participants were not villa guests.

MORE EXCITEMENT - There was a call to say an armed robbery was taking place
at Beach Villa 521. Police advised Little Switzerland, the convenience store
and the Mini-Mart to close. Our police were in action quickly but 521 was
empty, pretty and peaceful. It was a puzzlement! It must have been a
rather unpleasant hoax.

Owners and guests enjoyed a pre-Valentine party at the pool. A good time
was had by most but some had a rather too good time due to the slightly late
arrival of the food. Thanks to David and Ella, neither of whom were feeling
too well, for making the arrangements.

Don't forget - the BVOA Annual Meeting is on 9th March at 10 am.
