ROYAL PALM FRONDS
by Betsy Bracey

Welcome to spring Bahamian style! What glorious beach weather we are
having! Although a mite windy for boating it's perfect for tanning and a
great game of golf. Lots of owners are here to take advantage of both.

Diretor Joe Calihan and Brenda, Cathy and Jim Braham, Jan and Peter
Burchfield, Diane Gerlach, Mary and Neil Rice, Virginia and Harry Peterson,
Kay and Mort Kaplan, Nan and Bud Camferdam, Nan and George Gregory, Joyce Turpin, Gae and Mike Meeson, Director Jerry Hill and BJ, Kathleen and Bill Draper, Claudia and Peppino Campi, Richard Moore, Tom Rathslag, Peter Rockwell, Erika Parker, Lucy and Stuart Stripp, Jackie and Stewart Carrell, Bill Blair, Mike and Jill Rohan, Roger Hedge, Kathy and James McAllister, Director Jack Tupper and Ann, Director Mike Meyer and Karen, MaryLou and Bill Neilsen, Maggie and Jose Miranda, Sharon and Dennis Dudley, Director Hagen Peters, Marco Perez, Consuela and Jorge Latour, Paola and Fabrizio Ghersel, Carol and Richard Actis-Grande, Una Galli, new owners Salli Ann and Bill Schiffmacher, Tom Seward, Molly and Michael Winblad, Doris and Carl Gedon, Peter Hewitt, Kathy Bachelor, Christa Weltchek, David Sands, Ginny and David Cosman, Jean and Bill Glasgow and Donald Benn have all put in an appearance since last I reported and all seemed to get on just fine amid the traffic and detritus of The RPCA Rebuilding Programme!

However one our most dearly loved owners, Joan Appleton, after wintering
here has put her unit on the market and left us for full time residency in
Canada. We are all very sad about this but Joan assures us it is for the
best. Hard to know why since she was out for 18 holes almost every day and seen at all the best parties! Nevertheless, her decision being final, we
had a gala farewell on the Royal Palm Deck the night before she flew off. It was attended by over 80 of Joan's friends who gathered to bid her adieu
and wish her well.

Joan's history in Treasure Cay spans over 35 years. She and Eric Appleton
arrived in Treasure Cay from Scotland in the early 60's and bought a villa
across from the present day Community Centre. Very soon thereafter they
bought a beach home on Ocean Boulevard where they lived for many happy
years. After Joan was alone she determined to buy a condominium in Royal
Palm where she has lived since the mid 80's.

Joan was instrumental in gathering contributions to build our Community
Centre, in establishing the library, in forming the Sand Bank Yacht Club and in establishing the ladies' golf group. She served as Director for the Royal Palm Condominium Asociation, as an officer for the TCPOA and was the original editor from Treasure Cay for the Treasure Times now called the Abaco Journal.

It is not possible to name an organisation or a community benefit programme in which Joan has not participated for the betterment of Treasure Cay. Our loss is Canada's gain for Mrs Appleton is, indeed, a grand lady whose selflessness and generosity has graced this community and the lives of all who were fortunate enough to call her friend. We are grateful for her contributions, for she has left behind a far better thing than that which she found. Wouldn't it be nice if we all could leave such a legacy.

Farewell, Joan! Don't make it goodbye. Come to see us whenever you can.
