MARINER'S COVE
by Suzanne Young
Visitors seeing Treasure Cay for the first time might wonder how we could face the
problems of rebuilding after Hurricane Floyd left his devastating mark. They'd soon
experience the feeling that so many people have expressed, saying that after travelling
all over the Caribbean, they knew after arriving here that Treasure Cay was just what
they had been looking for.
This year our loyalty has been put to the test. We've found the wreckage and have
pitched in to put things right. People who have probably never even wielded a hammer
to hang a picture are becoming familiar with the whole tool box.
Here, on the marina, the absence of so many birds is very conspicuous. In three months
I've seen one palm warbler, one red-bellied woodpecker and a couple of those noisy
turtle doves. I've even missed the flocks of turkey vultures which sometimes hover
over us on the golf course, prompting me to cry out: "Go away! I'm not dead yet!"
It is quiet now at Mariner's Cove. Many owners have gone home after a 'working' vacation.
Still hanging around the pool solving all the world's problems are Lucy Beckwith
(holding court), sun worshipper Corley Solither, Nixa and Ed Beaver, and Art and
Delores Lukenda. Meredith Haskey keeps our tennis courts useful with organised events.
Ralph and Nancy Quincy, our in-house pros, have returned home to Medford, Oregon.
The Allen Carltons and Ray Youngs (Sue, Ray, Gail and Craig) are celebrating every
moment of being here together.
Jerry and Doris Gibson have a new appreciation of 1403, since they've used it while
their Royal palm condo has been undergoing repair. We miss Shirley Sadler and her
family, the Dick Grahams, the Pat Kingsfords and many more who have returned home..
To all the rest of our neighbours and all of our Treasure Cay friends, we say have a beautiful
summer. We'll see you next fall.
