NATIONAL NOTES

Post Office Boo-Boo: The leading Bahamian of the past half century, Sir Lynden Pindling, was commemorated in a special stamp edition issued by the Bahamas Post Office. His greatest achievement was Bahamian independence. His likeness and the date of Bahamian independence appeared on two stamps. Something wrong though - the date. Instead of July 10th 1973, the stamp read July 10th 1972. The Post Office said the stamps would not be withdrawn because their value would be markedly increased without Bahamians being able to participate in the windfall from this philatelic farce.

Hot Chile: Chile beat The Bahamas 4-1 in Davis Cup action 6th - 8th April in Nassau. The Chile team featured Marcello Rios, one of the world's top players. The point was scored by The Bahamas in the doubles, where Mark Knowles and Mark Merklein won.
