ROYAL BANK BRANCH IN TREASURE CAY

Royal Bank of Canada opened its full-service branch in Treasure Cay on 21st March, at last providing the residents of the resort area week-long access to their accounts and investments. Treasure Cay becomes the first community on Abaco outside of Marsh Harbour to have such facilities.

In an opening ceremony held in front on the new bank Mrs Joyce Coleby, Manager of the Marsh Harbour Branch of RBC, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies and introduced Mr Ross McDonald, Vice President.

Mr McDonald noted that the Royal Bank of Canada was the first bank ever to do business in The Bahamas and for many years was the only overseas bank in the country. The previous day, he told the assembled guests and dignitaries, a similar new branch had been opened up in Harbour Island, Eleuthera.

The main speaker was Julian Francis, Governor of the Central Bank of The Bahamas, who congratulated RBC on its initiative and show of confidence in the economy of Abaco and The Bahamas. Governor Francis then cut a ribbon to officially declare the bank open. It took him three or four tries so it's just as well he's a banker and not a rabbi.

The invited guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet provided by Treasure Cay Ltd and were able to inspect the bank's sparkling new decor and talk with the staff and visiting officials. The new bank's manager is Mrs Sylvia Poitier.
