ALTON LOWE EXHIBITION
Abaco artist Alton Lowe held his annual exhibition of paintings at the Nassau Beach
Hotel starting 27th March. Among the exhibits were paintings of Bahamian roses that
will appear on Bahamian postage stamps in September of this year. With Mr Lowe was
American artist James Mastin who collaborated with him in the creation of the Memorial
Sculpture Garden in Green Turtle Cay.
As a special feature of the opening evening there was a book signing by Abaco brothers
Leonard and Chester Thompson. Capt Leonard Thompson's book I Wanted Wings
is a memoir of his boyhood days in Hope Town plus his war service with the Royal Canadian
Air Force, ending with his business and political career. Chester Thompson's recently
published The Fledgling
tells of the growing pains and pleasures of a young boy in Hope Town. The book has
received considerable critical acclaim. Both are available at Abaco Office Products.
