BEC IN TREASURE CAY

During the Treasure Cay Property Owners' Association's 1998 AGM the following message was read from Bradley Roberts, Deputy Manager of Bahamas Electricity Corporation:

During negotiations, Abaco Utilities Limited insisted that
Water & Sewage be taken over along with the electrical
supply. Bradley Roberts and John Hudson, along with George
Moss, General Manager of A W & S, met with the management of
Abaco Utilities to try to work out a timetable. This is still
under negotiation. A W & S is not ready to take over until
September 1998. BEC hope to conclude their negotiations well before
this date. Present timetable for total takeover of electricity,
water & sewage will be September 1998. Treasure Cay will be
the last area in Abaco to come under BEC power.

* RUMOUR: Breakdowns of new equipment in Marsh Harbour
because of mistakes by engineers and workmen.

* FACTS: Target date for the installation of the new
equipment in Marsh Harbour was March 1997, but there came a
six month delay on the part of the contractor. Maintenance
could not be carried out on the old equipment which was
running almost full time.

Two new units are now in operation and regular maintenance
of all equipment is now possible. Power cuts due to
breakdowns do not happen today. Power cuts due to
installation still happen from time to time, but this
too should soon be a thing of the past.
