TREASURE CAY INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH TOURNAMENT CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY
From 10th-15th May, the 15th Annual Treasure Cay International Billfish Tournament
will offer four full days of world-class fishing competition as well as a multitude
of exciting social events. Targeted species include blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish
and divisions for tuna, wahoo and dolphin.
The TCIBT celebrates its 15th anniversary after a successful event last year, where
40 boats and 160 anglers enjoyed a week of competition and fun. Robert Meister, Director
of the TCIBT, commented: "In our 15 year history we have seen the Abacos emerge from near obscurity to become one of the finest fishing destinations in the world."
Last year Golden Eagle,
owned by Al Hoffman of Miami FL, placed first, boating a 437 lb blue marlin and releasing
three others. Cameras supplied to participants to verify billfish releases enhanced
the tournament's emphasis on conservation and will be provided this year by Kodak
products and Island Merchants. Tournament activities featured a Bahamian Arts & Crafts
Festival, a unique lay-day event, which will become a permanent fixture of the tournament.
The tournament will also hold a raffle/auction, which generated more than $8,000 for the IGFA Junior Angler Programme
and Treasure Cay School.
Registration, including an entire package of meals, events and tournament souvenir
packages, is $1,200. Land accommodations are available to participants at reduced
rates. Due to last year's tremendous season, the resort advises anglers to register
as early as possible. For entry forms, contact Treasure Cay Services at (800) 327-1584 or
visit the web site at www.treasurecay.com. Texaco Bahamas, Kodak and Abaco Wholesale
are major sponsors.
Treasure Cay will also host the third leg of the Bahamas Billfish Championship on
26th April-1st May and the 2nd Annual Cabo Challenge 15th-20th June.
