TEACHER OF THE YEAR
The teachers of Abaco Central Secondary School voted Geography specialist Peter Sexton
as their Teacher of the Year 1998. Mr Sexton has served in The Bahamas at Abaco Secondary
for 8 years and is loved by the students as well as appreciated by his colleagues. A special assembly was held on the morning of 7th April followed by a luncheon
in one of the school classrooms.
In addition to his teaching duties, Mr Sexton is President of the Rotary Club of Abaco
and regularly referees soccer games for the Abaco Soccer League - a sometimes risky
task! Mr Sexton declared himself at a loss for words at the outpouring of affection
from the children through skits, songs and special presents.
Appreciated at the same time was English teacher Jill Saunders who was a very narrow
second in the balloting. It was Ms Saunders who prepared and decorated the room for
the luncheon and played a leading part in fêting Mr Sexton.
