ABACO TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE

On 18th-19th March, a crew of four persons from CNN visited Abaco. They were here
to gather information and film areas on Abaco for a feature story on the islands
of The Bahamas for their Travel Guide television programme what is aired every Saturday
afternoon at 12.30 pm EST for half an hour and viewed by millions throughout the United
States. The crew's first day was spent with Brendal Stevens of Brendal's Dive Shop.
They were able to experience and film the Abaco way of snorkeling and the diving
of conchs, lobsters and fish. Following the snorkeling and diving, they were taken to a beach
where a picnic was held and they were able to film and interview Brendal Stevens
as he prepared and cooked the sea goodies that were caught earlier. Everyone enjoyed
a delicious meal! The following day, they visited Different of Abaco Resort. The first
part of the morning they participated in and filmed bird watching with Gina Kennedy,
who identified the various birds and gave a brief overview on them. They also conducted
an interview with Nettica Symonette on bush medicine and the roasting of wild boar.
Nettie also educated them on the various items of bush medicine and what they are
used for. She demonstrated how to make bush medicine drinks and invited everyone
to sample. Following the delicious wild boar lunch, presentations were made to the group from
A & K Liquor and Little Switzerland. The CNN coverage of Different of Abaco is expected
to air on Saturday 8th May.
On 2nd March, Heather Carey of BTO London escorted a group of nine from BA/Thomas
Cook Travel Agency of London. The group was able to visit Marsh Harbour, Hope Town
and Guana Cay.
From 21st-27th March, Alasie Pictures, headed by its Producer/Director Hank Whetstone,
filmed a movie called "The Code" in Hope Town. The movie will be 110 minutes long
and rated PG. A total of 14 crew plus five actors flew to Abaco for the shooting.
The movie stars were Jim Fitzpatrick, Jim Coleman and Maria Conchita Alonzo. George "Show
Bow" Wilmore, a local man, participated in the movie as a conch salad vendor.
