VALUABLE DONATION TO CLINIC
The Friends of the Clinic
Committee presented VHF radios to the Marsh Harbour Clinic in a brief ceremony
at the clinic on 25th September. The radios are to go to the nurses' quarters,
the doctor, the emergency medical technician and to the clinic
itself.
The committee was formed and spearheaded by Elder S A Kennedy,
who saw the need for alternative communications with the medical services as a
result of experiences during and after Hurricane Floyd. During and after the
storm there was no communication with the clinic because the phone lines were
down. Even now, when the electricity is off the phones will not work. All of the
radios have battery backup and the equipment was purchased from and installed by
local dealers.
Other committee members are Nurse Carolyn Russell, Nurse
Tishura Mills, Nurse Assistant Janice Reckley, Nurse Assistant Paula Mills and
Emergency Medical Services Technician Bathsheba Davis.
The committee
achieved its goal by direct appeals and wishes to thank Shell Bahamas Ltd, Myers
Rum, Texaco Bahamas Ltd, Lundy & Co Attorneys at Law, Out Island Internet,
Scotiabank, Subway Sandwich Shop, Pier One Boat Rentals, Pinder's Plumbing &
Air Conditioning, V Alfred Gray & Co Attorneys at Law, Mr Jack Albury, The
Seventeen Shop, Family Market, Mr Hilland Albury and Mr Bill Johnston for their
contributions. Without their donations the project would not have been a
success.
