ALL-ABACO REGATTA
A total of 18 Class A, B and C boats competed in the sixth All-Abaco Regatta held from 19th-21st September at the Treasure Cay Ferry Dock. Class B and C racing took place on 20th and 21st while three Class A races took place on Saturday 21st.
Most attention was focused on the prestigious Class A races. For the second year Abaco Rage lifted the winners trophy with one win and two second place finishes. In the first race Dave Gale and the crew of the Abaco Rage headed off on a tangent from the other competitors after the starting cannon had fired yet still led at the first buoy.
The huge crowd at the presentation of trophies was addressed by Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Neville Wisdom who promised that other sports such as cycling and boxing could be incorporated into the next regatta celebrations.
Island Administrator Everette Hart, the inspiration and driving force behind the All-Abaco Regatta, returned to Abaco for the event from his posting in Exuma. Sadly, he noted this would probably be his last visit.
Results: Class A: 1st, Abaco Rage ; 2nd, Ruperts Legend ; 3rd, Running Tide .
Class B: 1st, Lady Natalie ; 2nd, New Chase ; 3rd, Eudiva .
Class C: 1st, Sacrifice ; 2nd, Good Night, Irene ; 3rd, Crazy Partner .
