BIRD WATCHING
Abaco is famous for its large selection of native and transient birds. For the first time this year Abaco was host to the $10 chicken, a bird that used to be known as the $2.50 chicken just a few years ago but has been reclassified. Dr Bracey, our birding expert, is off the island at the moment and is not around to comment on this momentous event.
The $10 chicken looks very much like the $2.50 chicken that was observed on Abaco in the mid 1990s but tends to be a little sparer somehow. The birds can be seen congregating in the eastern part of Sawyers Market but have also been observed using slightly different camouflage in other areas of Abaco.
Is this an invasion of $10 chickens? Will $10 chickens take over the indigent island birds or will government allow a shooting season so that the $2.50 chicken will be allowed to reestablish itself? Stay tuned...
