PILOT CLUB OF ABACO
by Charlene Fernander
The Pilot Club of Abaco celebrated its second installation dinner at the Jib Room,
Marsh Harbour, on 29th September. New members Valerie Dean, Cecelia Oliver, Zelma
Smith and Eunice Mills were officially welcomed to the fold. Out-of-town guests included
Sybil Hanna, Immediate Past President of the Pilot Club of Nassau, and Beverly LaRoda,
a member of the same club.
The Pilot Club of Abaco was formed in April of this year. Club President Charlamae
Fernander, her executives, and other members of the branch have been working hard
in several fund-raising ventures to financially establish Abaco's newest service
club and to launch its first campaign - Road Safety.
The club, a division of Pilot International (Macon, Georgia), is the third such membership
in The Bahamas, the other being the Pilot Club of Nassau and the Pilot Club of Freeport.
Members comprise men and women from many walks of life who come together to perform community service and carry out philanthropic projects.
Pilot Club of Abaco's October venture was a fund-raising movie premiere at Marsh Harbour's
new RND Cinema 3 and a Fall Ball will be held in November. The club also plans to
participate in the Special Education programme, led by Robert Imperata, which is
currently under way to assist Abaco school students with special reading difficulties.
