TEXACO SCHOLARSHIP FOR ABACO STUDENT

Justin McDonald, an Abaconian currently studying at the College of The Bahamas, has been selected as the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship from Texaco Bahamas. He will be majoring in accounting at Arcadia University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, beginning January 1999.

"It's always a good idea to begin post-secondary studies right here at COB if you plan to study abroad," says Justin. "It allows you time to make the adjustment to the college pace, and to save some money." All credits Justin has earned to date can be transferred to Arcadia University.

Justin and his family in Marsh Harbour have been actively working on raising the necessary funds for him to attend Arcadia University and are excited about Texaco's scholarship. Justin has been residing with relatives in Nassau since entering COB in 1997.

Texaco has been active in the Abaco community since adopting Abaco Central High School earlier this year. Although Justin attended Wesley College, Texaco was impressed by his 3.5 GPA and, following and extensive interview, selected him as the recipient of their scholarship.

"Furthering education is something we take to heart," says Mariette Storr, Texaco area manager for the Family Islands. "Most scholarship recipients in The Bahamas are from Nassau. We decided to look to the Family Islands for a promising student and we were happy to see there are many impressive candidates from all over the country."

"The Family Islands are developing quickly," says Brent Johnson, Texaco marketing consultant for the Family Islands. "There's a growing demand for professionals and we're happy to lend some support to ambitious students."

Following graduation, Justin looks forward to returning to The Bahamas to make his contribution to the work market.
