ABACO SCHOOLS OPEN

A new educational institute, Long Bay School, opened in September on Forest Drive, Dundas Town, giving Abaco parents even more choice in their children's education.

Mrs Ann Bootle has transferred from Treasure Cay Primary School to Amy Roberts All-Age School on Green Turtle Cay. Mrs Myrtis Russell has succeeded her as Principal at Treasure Cay.

The new Central Primary School on Forest Drive will not be ready for some time yet and the students remain at the feeder schools. Mrs Eunice Mills is Principal at Marsh Harbour and will be the Principal of the Central Primary School when it does open. Ms Beatrice Moxey, presently in charge of Dundas Town School, will become Vice Principal of the Central Primary School.

The students of both schools are looking forward to the coming move to a completely new campus site. The original plan was for one school to move onto the new site once enough complete buildings were available. Bearing in mind the disruption that will be caused by translocation in the middle of an academic year, a deliberate delay until next September is being considered. This will allow all the children to move into a completely equipped school at the same time.

S C Bootle Secondary School was reported to be fully staffed and off to a good start to the year under Principal Leslie Rolle. Abaco Central Secondary School in Murphy Town found itself several teachers short. New teachers were expected very soon to bring the staff up to full complement. A new six classroom block was expected to be in use by mid term. Newly appointed Principal Mrs Royann Swain was confident that the temporary difficulties encountered by this fast-growing school would be smoothed out in short order. The school roll was reported to be close to 600 students.
