BAHAMAS BILLFISH SCHOLARSHIP

Olivia Patterson of Hope Town is the third recipient of the Bahamas Billfish Championship which will allow her to continue her studies in marine biology as a junior at the Florida Institute of Technology Melbourne Campus. A graduate of Abaco Central High School, Olivia spent weeks interned at the Bahamas Marine Mammal Survey in her senior year. She has taken part in several other marine research expeditions since and hopes to open an educational marine centre in Hope Town some time in the future, while also investigating ways to increase stocks of spiny lobster, Nassau grouper and conch in Bahamian waters.

The scholarship, which is administered by the Lyford Cay Foundation, was created to encourage students pursuing careers that promote preservation of the natural marine life of The Bahamas.
