THE BOOK OF LISTS
The Editor
We're sorry. If you are a tourist buying a local news source to get an insight into
the community, you may be disappointed this month. As a journal, we must publish
the most important news and it is election time on an ebbing tide. Not being a newspaper,
we couldn't report the happenings as they occurred. We do, however, now produce the
full results of all elections and appointments. Rather than spread known results
through several issues, we feel Abaco Journal readers would prefer to have everything
in one issue. It does, however, look like a book of lists. Sorry.
It only happens every three years. Even when we have national elections, there are
only a couple of names to mention. Local elections are still new - this go-round
is only the second in history - and precedents are still being set. It's exciting
and interesting for local Abaconians, and those who have vested interests in Abaco need to be
kept abreast of what is happening in detail and receive a responsible overview. We
cannot ally ourselves to any political party or personality and serve the purpose
we have set ourselves - to keep property owners and regular winter residents apprised of
happenings of relevance on Abaco and in The Bahamas.
There is the beginning (at the moment it would be irresponsible to report further)
of a new mode of organised communication between resident Bahamians, property owners
and the Treasure Cay providers. When details are available from several sources,
we will let you know. That's our job. Meantime, if you threw down this issue saying, "There's
nothing exciting in there!" you may be right. But if you are a Hope Town, Guana Cay,
Man-O-War, Eastern Shores, Treasure Cay or other homeowner resident, you will want
to have matters on record. Abaco Journal gives you the record.
