LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

The old order changeth and giveth way to new... There were certainly some surprises in the Local Government elections held on 30th June. Long time political activist William Swain of Murphy Town failed to win a seat on the town committee while Benjamin Pinder of Sandy Point, the former chief councillor for South Abaco, also failed to be elected. The following were established as members of their respective town committees:

Grand Cay District
Roosevelt Curry, George Russell, Kennedy Russell, Calvin Albury, Zendal Hield.

North Abaco District
Little Abaco Committee - Theora Burrows, Wilfred Curry, Joycelyn McIntosh, Charlie Mills, Tyrone Mills, Leon Pinder (Chairman), Chris Russell. Coopers Town Committee - Boynell Williams, Sylvia Poitier, Everette Bootle (Chairman), John Cooper, Garnett Edgecombe. Treasure Cay Committee - Joseph Norris (Chairman), Rudy McKinney, Stephen Pedican, Andray Roberts, Veronica Henderson. Green Turtle Cay Committee - Roswell Sawyer (Chairman), George Lowe, Christopher Sawyer, Jack Saunders, Lincoln Jones.

Hope Town District
Suzanne Bethel, Kevin Albury, Scott Patterson, Glen Laing, Arthur Elden, Richard Roberts, Roy Russell.

Central Abaco District
Marsh Harbour Committee - Mike Malone (Chairman), Frankie Russell, William Johnston, Allan Lowe, Yvonne Key, Ray Clarke, Perry Sawyer, Bernis Pinder, David Williams. Dundas Town Committee - Carl Archer, Wayde Archer, George Cornish, Faron Newbold, Cay Mills, Silbert Mills (Chairman), Jimmy Williams. Murphy Town Committee - Cubel Davis Jr, Jason Swain (Chairman), Eugene Dawkins, Ronnie Johnson, Paul Swain, Anderson Wilmore, Basil Wilmore.

South Abaco District
Cherokee Sound Committee - Derek Albury, Sandra Albury (Chairman), Vashti Albury, Kathie Ann Sawyer. Crossing Rocks Committee - Theodore Carrol, Alice Williams (Chairman), Isreal Williams. Sandy Point Committee - Robert McKinney, Stanley White (Chairman), Valeria Lightbourne, Jason Roberts, Patrick Roberts.

Mores Island District
Alex Davis (Chairman), Valentino Feaster, Solomon Hield, Thomas Hield, Nixon Simms.

Following the town committee elections, the committees met to elect their representatives to the respective area councils. The councils then elected their chief councillors and deputy chief councillors. Biggest surprise here was the replacement of Mike Malone as chief councillor for Central Abaco by Silbert Mills after Mike Malone had generally been accepted as a very sympathetic, active and effective chief councillor. In the north, Joe Norris was returned as chief councillor - the only survivor of the original triumvirate:

Grand Cay District

Hope Town District
Roy Russell (Chief Councillor), Suzanne Bethel (Deputy), Kevin Albury, Arthur Elden, Glen Laing, Scott Patterson, Richard Roberts.

Mores Island District
Alex Davis (Chief Councillor), Thomas Hield (Deputy), Valentino Feaster, Solomon Hield, Nixon Simms.

Central Abaco District
Silbert Mills (Chief Councillor), Jason Swain (Deputy), Mike Malone, Bernis Pinder, David Williams, William Johnston, Carl Archer, Faron Newbold, Cubell Davis.

North Abaco District
Joe Norris (Chief Councillor), Sylvia Poitier (Deputy), Everette Bootle, Eric Collie, Wilfred Curry, Joycelyn McIntosh, Leon Pinder, Andray Roberts, Roswell Sawyer.

The councils then appointed their statutary boards which will oversee various aspects of Abaco life:

Licensing Authority: Everette Bootle (Chairman), Edison Cornish (Deputy), Christine Curry, Anne Albury, Jack Saunders, Stephen Pedican, Victor McIntosh.

Hotel Board: Myrtis Russell (Chairman), Lincoln Jones (Deputy), Boynell Williams, John Cooper, Jonathan Curry, Livingston Thompson, Georgina Laroda.

Port Authority: Roswell Sawyer (Chairman), Charlie Mills (Deputy), Charles Jones, O'Donald McIntosh, Gregg Curry, Marcel Murray, Ossie Parker.

Town Planning: Tyrone Mills (Chairman), Kenneth Major (Deputy), Curtis Cooper, Lonnie Lowe, Euclid Baillou, Wayne Sands, Archie McDonald.

Central Abaco Boards

Licensing Authority: Felemease Sawyer (Chairman), Wayde Archer (Deputy), Paul Swain, Eugene Ferguson, Carl Archer, Eugene Dawkins, Liann Key-Kaighin.

Hotel Board: Greg Gomez (Chairman), Clifford Henfield Jr (Deputy), Patrece Williams, Gwendolyn Martin, Kayla Lockhart, Jonathan Simms, Meoshi Newbold.

Port Authority: Chad Sawyer (Chairman), Faron Newbold (Deputy), Basil Wilmore, Thomas Adderley, Henley Dawkins, Roger Delancy, Edward 'Bo' Roberts.
